About Urban Design.org
Our approach is pragmatic: we analyze the main theories of urban design to compare how cities are built through planning instruments (such as Land Use Plans) and current regulations, observing how these shape our cities, with a special emphasis on the Latin American and Colombian context. From the construction details of public spaces to the macro-level management of road infrastructure, we seek to bridge the gap between academia and real-world implementation.

We address architects, urban designers, urban planners and managers, and all citizens concerned with building cities as more vibrant, sustainable, resilient, and safe collective spaces. Our work is disseminated through our website and social media to capture the attention of citizens as promoters of best urban practices in pursuit of urban sustainability and as active participants in city building. This is possible because we have a team of professionals and because we believe that disseminating this information is vital to guiding citizens toward their own education and decision-making in the urban environment. Our focus is on presenting urban design as a participatory practice and creating a space for research, education, advising, and consulting, drawing on professional experience and striving to contribute to the development of better urban projects.

About the Autor
Behind UrbanDesigner.org is Ricardo Andrés Luna Nieto, an architect specializing in urban-scale projects, with Specialist and Master’s degrees in Urban Design.
As an active member of the Colombian Association of Urban Designers, Ricardo A. Luna combines academic research with a solid professional track record in the public infrastructure sector. His experience extends beyond design; he has a proven track record in the oversight and technical supervision of large-scale road and public space projects.
He has led monitoring processes for high-impact projects in municipalities such as Soacha and Bogotá, working with entities like the Institute of Urban Development and the District Institute of Cultural Heritage. He has ensured compliance with technical specifications and urban planning regulations, while also prioritizing the citizen’s experience as a user of the city. This duality between academia and the “real-world experience of construction” allows him to offer a unique perspective on the real challenges of bringing urban design to life today.

How can we collaborate?
Beyond my outreach work on UrbanDesigner.org, I offer my technical and academic expertise to consortiums, construction companies, and public entities. My approach combines regulatory rigor with practical feasibility on-site.
